The St. Albans & District Voluntary Support Group was started in 1988 and has been run ever since by people with diabetes or who care for somebody with the condition. Despite having been around for so long and despite the huge increase in people being diagnosed with diabetes, many of those who contact us say they had not known about the group and wish they had heard of us sooner. This website is designed to promote the group and our activities and we invite you warmly to join us at our monthly meetings. Please feel free to contact us for any information which you cannot find on the site.

Our formal aims are:

  • to provide support, understanding and friendship for local people with diabetes
  • to provide information and education about diabetes which will help local people with the condition and their carers, family and friends to understand the condition and control it so that they can enjoy healthy lives
  • to bring to the attention of those in authority issues of concern to people with diabetes and to foster an awareness of their needs
  • to raise and distribute money for purposes linked to diabetes
